When we moved into the ideate stage, it was a time for everyone to get all their ideas out on the table-crazy, wacky, innovative, groundbreaking, and simple. Every type of idea was shared for the teams to start
making connections between them.
Create Something Meaningful - End-Products
The participants’ end products included a business plan using the social entrepreneurship framework and
a media marketing plan to find the best way to get their ideas out to people who can contribute as well.
It was our vision that participants take their business and media marketing plans back to their homebase
for implementation. Here are a few examples of their promotional materials:
The Brilliant Banana: Social Challenge - Food Waste
HereMumbai: Social Challenge - Education
Educating adults through partnerships between small businesses and teachers
DemocracyFYI: Social Challenge - Lack of Awareness in Indian Politics
One of the groups took a separate route and decided to start a nonprofit that focussed on raising
awareness for Indian voters on India’s politics. This group started a facebook group to spread the word:
Kiran: Social Challenge - Violence Against Women
Kiran is a non-profit organisation with income-generating activities. It combats violence against women
by educating young people. Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ngokiran
To the Summit and Beyond - What’s next?
Students and teachers in one room. An experience to develop an understanding of social
entrepreneurship through design thinking. Three days. One trip to Dharavi. Three expert mentors. Eight
student leaders. What’s next? We intend to take one or two of these social enterprises and bring them to
life. Having students write up a business plan for a social enterprise is an educational experience. But
having them implement their ideas is liberating, not just for their communities, but for themselves too.
For this reason, we’ve created The Greenhouse, an incubator for our students to bring their ideas to life.
ASB’s Greenhouse empowers, supports, and connects students to prototype and develop innovative ideas
for the world. It is ASB’s platform committed to supporting students to research and develop ideas,
concepts, prototypes, and transform those into real-world solutions. The Greenhouse supports student
innovation by providing:
Connections with mentors and experts from fields of interest
A framework for researching and developing prototypes
Effective ways to pitch ideas to investors and other experts from relevant fields
Opportunity and space to develop prototypes
