physical products like a math curriculum or a website, and to some effect,
planning. The two excerpts below are examples of this kind of reflection.
EXCERPT #1 - Collaboration
“In Habitat I learned how to paint
houses which I had never done before
and all in all our group painted about 8-
9 houses. We had to collaborate and
reflect on our work each evening to
make sure we'd find the most efficient
way to approach the task. After we
randomly painted the first house, we
decided that it would be a quicker and
more efficient method to "claim" a
patch of wall on which we'd do the first
coat then move on to another patch so
everyone knew what their job was and
you could clearly see your progress.
Then we'd do the same thing for the
second coat. Some people were given the red paint to finish of window
frames and pillars at the side of the houses. Then we'd team up for the
top painting on the ladder, so there was always one person holding the
ladder while someone else was up and painting. We also collaborated
with the villagers in asking them for materials like ladders or paint and
sometimes they would hold the ladders for us or paint alongside us.”
EXCERPT #2 - Collaboration
“...it brings me closer with my friends and lets us become closer through
teamwork and helping people. The overwhelming stress of controlling
such a big hungry crowd of people is that really enforces team work. In
feed to succeed we kind of have to end up working with one another
because if we as a team are not strong then the whole operation can be
ruined by us not being strong as a team allowing the whole situation to
get out of hand.”
