was a small section of students who showed no progress from the
beginning to the end of the year, this number was three times higher in
the control group (see Figure 9). Almost all of the students who showed
zero progress were in the bottom 5% of the entire student group. In other
words, our program was also helping “low achieving” students improve
their basic phonemic awareness and begin to build decoding skills.
