elementary school, an easy first step into sensors and requires no
additional hardware beyond the tablet.
littleBits is an amazing tool for helping students of all ages to understand
electrical components and sensors by letting them explore how they can
be combined to produce different effects. Each littleBits acts as a building
block that can snap together magnetically with other components to
allow young learners to explore and construct. With no prior knowledge
of electronics you can throw together a button that turns on a fan or
lights that turn on when you clap. When using littleBits with a second
grader, we brainstormed an invention that would help alert us when the
bus arrived. We designed an idea of something so when the bus rolled
into the school, it would somehow turn on a light so we knew it had
arrived. With littleBits we created this invention using a pressure sensor,
an infrared transmitter, an infrared receiver, and an LED piece.
