70 Future Forwards: Exploring Frontiers in Education
After understanding the context of GBMH, and experimenting with
possible tools, we decided to take a deep dive into exploring learning
possibilities using technology with the teachers. Seven teachers from
GBMH gathered for a two hour session to understand how software
programs in the OLPC Laptop could be used to design a lesson plan for
the subjects the teachers taught in their classroom.
Based on the subjects they taught at the school, the teachers were
subdivided into three groups:
Science – Three Teachers
Maths – Two Teachers
Geography – Two Teachers
Below are the learning objectives for this two hour session:
How could we prepare a Lesson Plan using the OLPC Laptop?

How to prepare a Lesson Plan using the OLPC Laptop
Teachers at the school prepare daily lesson plans by making diary entries
about the curriculum and topics to be covered in each day’s class. Based
on this framework, we presented a sample lesson plan was presented to
The lesson outcome was to prepare a family tree using the Mind Mapping
Software to allow students to understand various family relationships.
The lesson plan included instructions on getting the OLPC started, how to
use the Mind Mapping Software, and how to save their files.
The teachers were then given a teaching challenge based on the
knowledge and skill set they developed with the OLPC Laptop over
several training sessions which went as follows:
