knowledge they developed to create something of value to the world or
their particular field. This social creation led to a relative satisfaction of
their evolving need for a sense of relatedness which is concerned with
the universal propensity to interact with, be connected to, and experience
caring for other people (Baumeister & Leary, 1995).
We concluded our study with a thought experiment by asking ourselves this
‘What if Zaha Hadid, Leonardo Da Vinci, Wangari Mathai, Satyajit Ray, Elon
Musk, Frida Kahlo and all of the other 23 individuals profiled in this study
were students at our school during the same time period? What if they
were all students in the same classroom? How would we design a learning
program to help each of them develop the specific competencies they
eventually developed during their lives?’
