ensuring they each do a fair share. These three skills were selected as being
the most relevant and printed out on cards. We call these cards our learning
toolkit and each child has a toolkit of their own, giving them ownership over
their learning skills and creating excitement and interest for each newly
introduced skill that is added to their ‘tools’ for learning.
Over the course of the inquiry, at relevant points, we take opportunities to
regularly check-in and reflect on the ‘how’ of each learning skill until, as a
class, we have constructed a How To Guide for each skill. These ideas come
solely from the children’s reflections during classroom experiences and
discussion. Our guides are not static and we continue to add to them over
the course of the year as we discover more about learning.
